In the "Democracy and Puppet Theatre" project, schools and puppet theatres from four countries are developing innovative curricula for democracy education. Representatives of all partners met for the first time in Vienna at the invitation of the LILARUM puppet theatre. Under the scientific direction of the Vienna Forum for Democracy and Human Rights, partners in Belgrade, Budapest, Ravne na Koroškem and Vienna are developing methods and materials that enable students of different school types and levels to creatively address democracy and human rights in school lessons and further explore their personal environment. They process insights gained from puppet theatre performances in official buildings, such as the town hall, in spring 2022. The artistic tools of puppet theatre help to express disputes, at the heart of hard-to-say words, and to bring relationships into new contexts. After numerous online meetings, it was finally possible to meet all project partners in person in Vienna. In four half-days, the four tandems, consisting of teachers and artists, developed the first version of teaching methods for the implementation of art concepts in their hometown. Of course, the social programme has not been neglected either. In addition to a joint dinner in the "Stöckl im Park", a visit to the Burgtheater was also included in the program. The project, which contributes to global citizenship education, was funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union and managed by the LILARUM theatre. Along with the Vienna Forum for Democracy and Human Rights, Hainburger Straße 40 is the third Viennese partner. The international partners are Zadruga Zraven and Solski Center Ravne na Koroškem (Slovenia), Malo pozorište "Duško Radović" and Osnovna škola "Ilija Birčanin" (Serbia), as well as Interplay Hungary and Keleti István Primary Art Education Institute (Hungary).
